Get 25 hours of talk time in new Apple Smartphone case
The Silicon Review
15 December, 2015

The iPhone 6 and 6s are among the top Smartphones in the planet. The only dent both these phones face is in the battery life which is average at best. A hefty price tag should guarantee a good battery life for the iPhone 6 and 6s. Users and critics have bashed Apple for the phones’ dismal performance in the battery department.

Now, the company has released a Smartphone battery case of its own, promising to give the iPhone 6 and 6s users up to 25 hours of talk time.

The new case priced at a lofty $99 is called the Smart Battery Case.  It is made from silicone and comes in charcoal gray or white. It gives users 18 hours of LTE use and 20 hours of audio and video playback. The case essentially gives the iPhone users a battery life more comparable to what you’d see from Apple’s larger Plus phones. Its design uses the same Lightning charging cable as the iPhone itself, as opposed to the micro-USB cord of most other battery cases. It also has what Apple calls an “intelligent battery status,” which lets users know how much juice their phone and case still have from the lock screen. You can see it by swiping down on your iPhone’s home screen. The tiny LED indicator light tells you whether the case is depleted (amber) or charged (green) has been put inside the case.

The case has a weird looking bump on its back where the extra battery is housed. It might be at turn off for some users. Once you put the case on, it just starts charging your depleted iPhone. If both devices are at 100 percent, and you’ve got the case on, the phone will use the case’s battery first, and then switch to draining its own cell.

Reviews of the case are mixed as there are better cases available with a lower price factor. The Apple case therefore doesn’t offer the best value for money. For example, the similarly priced Mophie Juice Pack has a 2,750mAh, as compared with the 1,877mAh you get from the Smart Battery Case. Some reviewers say that non-Apple headphones may need extenders to get through the headphone port on the case.
