Diane Greene: The lady leading the Cloud Push


With cloud technology making noise for all the right reasons, Google Inc, which is a unit of Alphabet Inc, has now appointed Diane Greene who is a co-founder of VMware and an adept lady in this  industry to run the much acclaimed  Cloud technology where as Sundar Pichai, CEO Google inc continues with  his efforts to gain share in this fast-growing market.
Greene, who has been Google’s director for a good three years, will now lead a new team which combines the company’s cloud businesses that is said to include Google for Work, Cloud Platform, and Google Apps.

Google takes on Amazon and Microsoft in the cloud and will do everything in their power to go head to head with the industry giants.

Google is said to buy Diane Greene’s start up which BeBop Technology which is said to create specialized cloud-based services for Media & Entertainment at a whooping $380 million. The BeBop team will now join Google after the transactions are closed this year.

This $380 is one hundred percent in form of equity and that $148.62 million of those proceeds which will go to a donor advised fund which is said to represent Greene’s entire stake in the start up. Though the start up did no public disclosure of its investors, there are speculations that this venture capital firm includes the likes of Andreessen Horowitz.

With the purchase settlements taking place during the course of the year, Greene will continue to serve as a non-independent director on the board.

Greene is also a senior vice president of Google’s enterprise business, which includes Google’s cloud computing efforts. The search giants as of now play a distant third in the market to Amazon’s Web Services and Microsoft’s Azure.
