Verizon and Viptela join hands to manage demand for hybrid networking

The ace communications company Verizon and Software-Defined WAN provider Viptela are joining forces to deliver a new software defined networking solution using Viptela’s Software Defined WAN Platform. Viptela also entered into an exclusive managed services arrangement with Verizon in the United States. By joining forces, the duo is addressing the market’s pent-up demand for managed hybrid networking solutions that enable enterprises to securely, reliably and simply access their applications from the cloud or on-premises from any device or desktop while better managing the ever increasing volume of data.

The new Verizon service, powered by Viptela, allows enterprises to “mix and match” private and public IP connections such as MPLS, wireless LTE, broadband and Ethernet to meet an organization’s unique application requirements based on geographic location, bandwidth and application service availability needs. The new managed service is being offered in the U.S., Europe and the Asia Pacific region. “Software defined networking is the wave of the future,” said Shawn Hakl, vice president of Enterprise Networking and Innovation, Verizon.  “Viptela’s innovative technology coupled with our global networking and data center assets give clients an advantage in today’s digital economy where speed and agility matter most. Indicators from our testing efforts confirmed this solution is poised to take off in the enterprise space.”

“Viptela SD-WAN creates a unified and secure WAN that allows Verizon to deliver a new range of business application capabilities with exceptional levels of security, performance and availability,” said Amir Khan, CEO of Viptela. “The new Viptela-powered service enables Verizon to expand its WAN footprint by harnessing the power of software defined networking, and capitalize on new business opportunities made possible by the cloud and virtualized infrastructures.” The companies remain committed to joint agile product development to further enhance the user-application experience and to help drive more value for enterprise clients. This effort will lay the groundwork for future virtualization functionality. The Viptela solution is delivered from Verizon’s cloud and will be supported by Verizon’s IT consulting group which helps enterprises manage their transition to SD-based networking and can also provide integration and lifecycle management services. The solution expands Verizon’s Managed SD WAN portfolio currently based on Cisco’s iWAN technology in the US, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
