Windows 10 Mobile Gets an Official Twitter App

After launching an app for Windows 10 PCs and tablets last year, Twitter is bringing the fun to Microsoft smartphones as well. Twitter updated its free Windows 10 app with support for mobile phones. Now, it should be easier than ever for those on Windows 10 mobile devices to discover content on Twitter as well as share their own publicly and privately.

The app supports some newer Twitter features, such as the ability to send group Direct Messages; capture, edit, and tweet video; quote retweet; and see top tweets without logging in. It also lets you explore Twitter’s Moments feature, which is essentially a highlight reel showing the most popular stories unfolding across the microblogging service that second. One of the big drawbacks of Windows 10 mobile is that developers haven’t been too keen to create apps for the platform, so this support from Twitter is somewhat of a win, however futile.

“When bringing the app to mobile phones we carefully considered each section of Twitter and how the user interaction translates from desktops and tablets,” Twitter Product Designer Angela Lam wrote in a blog post. “We found that 90 percent of the UI and interaction models could be shared from these devices to mobile phones, but there were places where we decided to make adjustments to optimize for each.”

The Moments feature, for instance, will look different on mobile devices than it does on larger desktop and tablet screens. On mobile devices, these stories and videos will take up your whole screen and you’ll be able to swipe to navigate through them, while the desktop and tablet version will show stories in a grid layout.

Meanwhile, the update also adds a highly requested feature for Windows 10 users on desktops and tablets: the dark theme. You can change your theme by going to Settings > Personalization.
