Truepic, a startup is on a mission to end fraudulency

Scared that your tinder friend might be an imposter? So you want to book a hotel’s room and you doubt the image shown on the website is nothing but an internet random image?

Craig Stack, the co-founder and COO of Truepic has initiated a photo verification technology that shall kill off any doubts regarding the authenticity of an image. It has recently launched Truepic SDK for other products and its own consumer app.

Here’s an insight of how Truepic works: users of the technology can either snap a photo or video inside Truepic’s consumer iOS or Android app, or within the product. “We are way past the tipping point in terms of how easily things are faked online and the loss of authenticity and reality in favor of perfection,” Craig Stack.

After that Truepic’s patented technology will start its verification process to find out if the image has been altered or edited, and it will watermark the image if found valid with a time stamp, geocode, and other metadata. The image is later stored in Truepic’s digital vault and is then assigned a six-code and URL for retrieving it back, but if it’s a matter of urgency Blockchain can be used to create distributed copies of the data.

After the final work has been accomplished, users can export the image for whatever use they might need it for. Truepic is more useful in apps like Tinder to verify if the person in-concern looks like his profile, also for apps like Airbnb to show people exactly what their place booked for lodging looks like, etc.
