Racial slur during stream: DMCA Takedown against PewDiePie’s Firewatch Content

The Swedish web-based comedian and video maker, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, fictionally known as PewDiePie already lost his profitable partnership with Disney and YouTube earlier this year due to an anti-Semitic video.

The Wealthy YouTuber is back again and has uttered a racial slur during a stream of PUBG and it is facing condemnation online. Game developer and Co-founder of Campo Santo (the studio behind the game Firewatch), Sean Vanaman will be filing a takedown against PewDiePie for featuring their latest game, as well any future releases.

Sean Vanaman tweeted, “We're filing a DMCA takedown of PewDiePie's Firewatch content and any future Campo Santo games”. The whole issue came hours after widely circulated footage showed PewDiePie saying the n-word while streaming an online shooter. Kotaku asked Campo Santo if Vanaman was responding directly to the video clip but Campo Santo declined. “He’s worse than a closeted racist: he’s a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry,” Vanaman tweeted.

He continued: “I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make.”

The co-founder of Campo Santo also urged other developers to take action against the likes of PewDiePie. According to Kotaku PewDiePie’s Firewatch play through got 5.7 million views already, but it has been thrown out from YouTube. 

Sean Vanaman tweeted, “Freedom of speech is freedom of prosecution. His stream is not commentary, it is an ad growth for his brand. Our game on his channel =endorsement”.
