Apple may create its own display for gadgets

Apple is striving hard to create its own display for gadgets like the iPhone, iPad, and smartwatches. The process has started but it may take some years to implement that on their gadgets. Currently, their focus is on creating MicroLED screens over the traditional OLED screens. Apple’s primary goal of creating the display is to produce better results and has several advantages over OLED screens as the screens which use MicroLED are slimmer, brighter, efficient and durable.

The company is aiming to use the new technology with smartwatch series first and then switch it to iPhones as it’s simpler to create the display for smaller sized gadgets. The watch that pioneered Oled as a display technology for Apple came out in Spring 2015 and was launched before the iPhone X (The first OLED iPhone).

According to sources, the development is being carried out at the company’s secret facility in California, USA where the testing of MicroLED-based displays are conducted by several Apple’s R&D engineers and found that it is more sophisticated as compared to OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode).

The new technology is however unproven and difficult to use, analysts say. “It is not clear whether MicroLED will be better than the OLED displays Apple uses for its smartwatches”, said Dongbu Securities analysts S.R.Kwon.
