Cloudflare launches new ‘privacy-focused’ DNS service
The Silicon Review
02 April, 2018

Cloudflare shared some exciting news on April Fool’s day. The U.S based company, launched its own consumer DNS service yesterday. The service claims to speed up your internet connection and help keep it private.

The reason for launching it on April Fool’s Day is because the service is using https://1.1.1.1, an actual DNS resolver that can be used by anyone.

Cloudflare promises users to shorten load times of web pages and keep some data away from network providers while declaring that it will be “the Internet’s fastest, privacy-first consumer DNS service.”

In case you are all confused about how it works, let me break it down to you- by typing the number “one” four times into their DNS network, users lets Cloudflare connect a URL that users punch into the toolbar.  Thereby promising to never write the IP address of a client to disk and to wipe all transaction logs within 24 hours.

Cloudflare said "We began talking with browser manufacturers about what they would want from a DNS resolver. One word kept coming up: privacy. Beyond just a commitment not to use browsing data to help target ads, they wanted to make sure we would wipe all transaction logs within a week. That was an easy request. In fact, we knew we could go much further. We committed to never writing the querying IP addresses to disk and wiping all logs within 24 hours."
