PaCSON: The Cybersecurity network from the Pacific Region is operating now

The Cybersecurity network called Pacific Cyber Security Operational Network (PaCSON) is now running. PaCSON has been created with a combined system of Computer Response teams (CERTs) and government based Cybersecurity officials from 14 Pacific nations.

Funded by the Australian Government, the first meeting was held in Brisbane last month and the initiative was launched by Australian Ambassador for Cyber Affairs Dr. Tobias Feakin. The member nations include: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the security threats and concerns, a continued threat incident discussion exercise, a workshop for Cybersecurity and to plan the future of Cybersecurity with teams from Papua New Guinea, Tonga and New Zealand.

"This initiative is timely for our region with the rapid increase of internet connectivity across the Pacific. PaCSON is a vehicle we can use for closer sharing of Cybersecurity threat information, tools, techniques and ideas between nations,” said Mr. Feakin.

PaCSON is stuck to the Government’s priority to develop a firm and buoyant Cybersecurity setup for the Pacific community, Australia and to the rest of the world.

According to CERT Australia, it will provide extensive support to the network with operational and technical guidance.
