Apple announced on Tuesday that they are making efforts to create inroads into the enterprise space by the partnership with IBM.
According to Luca Maestri, the CFO of Apple, companies like Air Canada, U.K. energy provider National Grid and Mexican bank Banorte, and almost 500 other companies have started using the mobile applications developed by Apple and IBM, though Maestri did not mention the number of workers using the apps.
The governments are also equally eager to use the hardware from Apple and software from IBM as they want to distribute iPads equipped with special health apps developed by IBM to the senior citizens. It is a part of their ‘Care for Aging Population’ scheme as a publicity strategy for projects with the companies involved with in Japan. Maestri added that it is a vision that by 2020, around four to five million Japanese seniors could be using the tablets. Clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters and the government of Miami Dade County in Florida are the two earliest customers who are using IBM apps on Apple mobile devices.
Apple and IBM are working together not only to develop mobile applications for business world but also to support each other. Maestri noted that the two companies together have come up with almost 35 apps till now. Apple is still on track to release 100 apps by the end this year, a goal set by Apple CEO Tim Cook when he first discussed the IBM deal last July.
