Volotea choose Ideagen’s Q-Pulse software to enhance aviation safety management
The Silicon Review
23 May, 2016

Aviation safety management specialists, Ideagen is to provide Volotea, the airline of mid and small-sized European cities, with its safety management software, Q-Pulse.

Volotea will implement the new suite of Q-Pulseto remove a series of silo systems which require excessive manual input for safety and operational data collation. At the same, Q-Pulsewill simplify compliance efforts to make it easier when demonstrating efficient levels of compliance to local Spanish, international authorities and EASA.

Working with Ideagen, Volotea’s use of Q-Pulseproduct is set to bring a number of operational improvements to the organisation, namely;

  • Reduced time to close findings and investigations.
  • Increased levels and quality of safety reporting.
  • Reduced man hours required in producing reports and demonstrating compliance.
  • Advantage of mobile via an application for auditing.

Carlos Guerra, IT Manager of Volotea, said: “We wanted a software solution which would epitomise the ambition and thought leadership we possess throughout the organisation; and Q-Pulsewas the fresh and new product which fitted that bill.”

Humbert Costas, Quality Director of Volotea, said: Q-Pulse has provided us with increased efficiency in investigating safety issues.”

As an organisation, Volotea continues to grow and fulfil its operational and growth objectives. In 2012, the company had two bases in Venice and Nantes but had grown to seven in 2015 to include Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias and Verona. Volotea has since recently opened its 8th base in Toulouse, France, in March 2016.

This year, the low-cost airline will operate flights to three new countries in Portugal, Malta and the UK in addition to the ten countries it flew to last year (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Israel, Albania and Moldova), offering a total of more than 38,000 flights with 196 routes to 72 cities in 13 countries.

Volotea will incorporate four Airbus A319 to its fleet of 19 Boeing 717 in the first months of 2016. This strategic decision will allow the company to increase its passenger capacity by 20%, from its current 125 seats to 150 seats on its plane. The capacity of the A319 in terms of length of flight, will also allow the company to operate routes with a longer distance and therefore, to penetrate new markets.

In January 2016, Volotea received the IOSA registration, an award for the company’s focus on security and quality.

Announcing the relationship with Volotea, Steven Cespedes, Ideagen’s Head of Aviation, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Volotea; an organisation filled with smart and exciting aviation specialists whose innovative approach to aviation safety management mirrors our own approach and products, such as Q-Pulse.”
