The first (and the only) time that Google used an animated ad on the google.com page, they were heavily criticized. This is a major advertising effort to promote the Google Duo app. The text on the Google.com page below the search bar reads: “Face-to-face with just a tap. Try Duo, simple video calling for Android and iOS.” In addition to that, Google has also published a series of ads about the Google Duo in their YouTube channel. However, Google is indeed going face major competition from the likes of WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger. The Google Duo app recently crossed 10 million downloads.
