Order your burger through...wait for it...your face!!

You heard it right! You can order burgers through your face. Like literally!

I’m sure we all have experienced the nightmare of an unwitting or unwilling employee. Describing the order with the perfect toppings and sauce can be a real battle sometimes. And we have all secretly prayed that the fast food restaurant somehow remembers our order from your previous visit, since we basically order same stuff each time( agree to it).

Now, American fast food chain Caliburger has launched a facial recognition system through which customers can order burgers through their face (I know, I freaked out too). Caliburger previously introduced burger-flipping robot called Flippy, in their stores.

It uses a fancy bit of software called NeoFace, developed by Japanese tech company NEC, to automatically load customers’ accounts once they enter the sensor’s field. The system keeps your face on file; let it eye you real good first, and your order’s theoretically a breeze.

By recording your face in the system, you'll be able to automatically bring up a past order next time with a simple face scan, and earn points (or Calicoins) toward free food down the track. You still have to use your credit card for now, but the company hopes to replace this with face-only payment by 2018.

The feature is in a pilot phase at CaliBurger’s Pasadena store, for now (that will make Sheldon Cooper very happy; advanced technology at last!). But it’s eager to make facial recognition the companywide ordering system, adding that plans are already in place to expand the technology worldwide next year. (That’d mean 13 more countries.)
