Over Sexual Harassment Allegat...Over the past two years,Google Inc. has fired 48 employees for sexual harassment – in a move to create a women-friendlyworkplace. The company’s Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said on Thursday.
“In recent years, we have made a number of changes, including taking an increasingly hard line on inappropriate conduct by people in positions of authority,” Pichai said.
“We are dead serious about making sure we provide a safe and inclusive workplace,” he said. “We want to assure you that we review every single complaint about sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct, we investigate and we take action.”
According toReuters, Mr. Pichai sent an email to employees in response to a report published by The New York Times. The report was published earlier in the day.
As per the news agency, the NYT report said that the search engine behemoth protected three senior executives from allegations of sexual assault – by offering them pay-outs.
As per the email, a copy of which was seen by the news agency, it’s confirmed that 48 employees were let go, and none of them received an exit package. The email also confirms that 13 among the total employees fired were senior managers and above.
“We are committed to ensuring that Google is a workplace where you can feel safe to do your best work, and where there are serious consequences for anyone who behaves inappropriately,” the email said.
