Google might soon roll out its...Apparently, Google is testing a new interface for new tabs on its Android browser called ‘Explore’. The feature is supposed to resemble the Google Assistant that can be found in its desktop browser. After it is implemented in the browser, the Explore feature will present itself whenever a New Tab is opened and offer several new websites relevant to the user’s preferences. However, it is not known if the website suggestions will be made in accordance to the user’s regions or browsing habits.
As of now, the feature can be used in experimental mode by a few Android users. Certain reports have mentioned that the Explore interface presently contains numerous placeholder sites that are specifically targeted at the interests of Indian users. The reports also state that the feature won’t just be available for the Indian market. Users can now choose from a variety of categories ranging from news, travel options, weather, and local services, etc.
Chrome users can enable the Explore UI by going to chrome://flags, and then search for ‘explore’. The user can then spot the ‘Explored Websites’ flag and then toggle it. This experience seems to be accessible from all Android versions supporting the latest Chrome app. Recently, Google had made an announcement saying that Google Chrome support will be removed from over 32 million devices that ran on Android Jellybean version 4.1 to 4.3. There have been many other speculations too that indicate Google has been trying to test its Notifications feature for its browser that would allow users to respond to chats.
