Transsion’s Flagship Brand Techno Dominate the Market in Africa

Transsion’s Flagship Brand Techno Dominate the Market in Africa
The Silicon Review
15 October, 2018

Techno, a Chinese Smartphone manufacturing company which have never sold a single handset in China is dominating the market in Africa. The people in the west don’t have much knowledge about the company but the company has left other big competitors like Samsung and Apple behind in its wake in a continent that's home to more than a billion people.

In Africa, Techno’s stores are spread across various cities like Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Nairobi (Kenya) and Lagos (Nigeria); busy streets are filled with bright blue shopfronts of Techno.

The company doesn’t have a single store in China but it’s headquarter is situated in Shenzen (Southern megacity). But, the headquarter goes largely unnoticed by the people because of skyscrapers which hold the name of other famous tech firms.

The success story of Techno is different from the rest of the Smartphone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi which rolled out in China itself before spreading their wings globally.

Transsion started its business in Africa and has no plans to sell at Home.

According to IDC, Transsion’s future business is ready to hit the market outside Africa in other developing markets which include Russia, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. In 2017, Techno was introduced in 2017 and within a year, the company claimed 5 percent of the huge Smartphone market.

According to Transsion, it has total workers of 10,000 in Africa and 6,000 in China. The low-cost African workforce helps the company to control its prices.
