Twitter assures that the bug was not a security threat

Twitter users were horrified as they were hit with a strange bug today. They received a string of alphanumeric characters instead of normal tweet notifications. This issue only affected iOS users. Twitter was prompt to look into the matter. The company immediately acted after receiving complaints from the Twitter user about this obnoxious bug.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorseyconfessed that his tech team is also seeing the issue and working to come up with a fix. As per his latest tweet, he now confirms that the issue has been resolved and the users need not worry about the weird bug anymore.

Not many details have been revealed by the company about what went wrong or why the notification screen was filled with weird string patterns. The users were scared as they thought their accounts were hacked. Twitter assured that the bug was related to notification code and it was not any kind of security issue. The alphanumeric strings were actually related to the code used for iOS notifications. Twitter explains that normally, users will not see the strings in their notification screen but because of the bug, the string was passing on instead of the tweets.

“We send an invisible background notification to the app with badge counts (mainly unread notifications, DMs, etc.). The issue caused these notifications to become visible for a short period of time. We don’t know exactly why, but quickly reverted,”Dorsey explains it in more technical term.

Whatever it was, users can now sigh in relief.
