Facebook expands its professio...Facebook is aggressively trying to expand its portfolio and include reasons for people to log in and sign up for reasons other than social networking. The California-based social networking giant has launched a new feature called Learn with Facebook, in an effort to help professionals climb the career ladder using training modules for everything from how to pass an interview to marketing services online, and even improving resumes. This initiative comes in the wake of another, called Jobs on Facebook, which enabled companies to post job openings online and reach out to suitable candidates. While these features mark a branching out from building a social network to a professional one, it is also a cause for concern for the reigning heavyweight of professional networking, namely, LinkedIn.
Facebook is trying really hard to recover its public image following news that it was used to influence elections and spread tons of fake news. The latest diversification efforts are a clear result of a decline in the growth rate in North America and Europe. So, it does make sense for the company to roll out additional reasons for engagement. However, it has a long way to go in this regard, as Learn with Facebook has about 13 courses for job seekers, while LinkedIn has over 13,000. But Facebook’s courses are free of cost, whereas LinkedIn charges a premium.
Facebook hopes that in future, it will become the go-to platform for those in search for a change of job or even their career.
