Twenty-Four Hours of Video Gaming Marathon Raises Money for Kids’ Mental Health

Twenty-Four Hours of Video Gaming Marathon Raises Money for Kids’ Mental Health
The Silicon Review

Recently at Sarnia-Lambton, a group of four gamers spent 24-hours straight, button mashing for charity and brought a solid haul of coins for kids’ mental health.

It’s been more than four years that Shaun Hood and Shawn Chapman have been playing games for Charity. And, over this course of time, the duo hasmanaged raised about $10,000 for different children charities in the town. This year the duo have contributed along with another two gamers, Max Major and Darryl Heater who played for a Twitch-streamed game festand brought $2,200 for St. Clair Child and Youth Services (SCCYS).

“The nerd community is strong in Sarnia and they always show up to support,” said Max Major.

Playing 24 hours straight is not a cake walk. Therefore, as support, the group of gamers got help from their friends and family who got them coffee and energy drinks to keep them focused on the game.

According to the gamers, this year, the event wasn’t that great as not many teams showed up or were involved. However, the four gamers managed to keep the event running. For the coming years, the gamers areexpecting a better crowd and are also planning to get some video-game, nerd-based institutions involved in the event.

“We will keep this going as long as people keep donating,”Major said.
