Snapchat introduces a map based newsfeed – SnapMap

Snapchat introduces a map based newsfeed – SnapMap
The Silicon Review
24 March, 2018

Snapchat, an app that is infamous for changing its user interface too often is now introducing yet another feature to its app. Named “Map Explore”, the new feature will let users scroll through their SnapMap notifications in a more methodical way, it’ll allow one to see where the friends are and to where they are travelling.

These status updates are generated automatically as and when your friends move from one place to another instead of manually typing their status updates.

SnapMap isn’t a mandatory feature that is thrown upon its users, it’s rather an opt-in feature.

The newsfeed basically gives users updates on the travel trends and patterns of all your friends. The feed pops up when they visit places like the beach, hill station, a famous restaurant or a famous hotel etc.

Snapchat says that they will make this feature more interesting by using this feature to send notifications or breaking news updates to their users based on the areas of SnapMap, that are receiving excess traffic tied to news events.

To use this feature, a user has to keep his/her GPS enabled all the time, while this is alright for high-end flagship phones, since they are equipped with juicy batteries, will users with mid or even low end phones even bother to read about this feature, is a question that will be answered in the coming days.
