Thomas Kurian, former Oracle President of product development, will replace Diane Greene as the head of Google’s cloud division. Mr. Kurian will join the division on November 26, this year.

According to GeekWire, Ms. Greene, in a blog post Friday, confirmed that Mr. Kurian will transition into the leadership role in early 2019.

“I believe that he will do an amazing job helping to take Google Cloud to the next level. Thomas has 22 years of experience at Oracle; most recently he was President of Product Development,”Diane Greene said.

In order to ensure a smooth transition, Ms. Greene will continue towork as CEO through January with Mr.Kurian, according to the report.

“...after an unbelievably stimulating and productive three years, it’s time to turn to the passions I have long had around mentoring and education,” she added.

Ms. Greene said she plans to mentor a new generation of entrepreneurs especially female founder CEOs of engineering and science background. “Mentoring will include investing in and helping such CEOs.”

“I want to encourage every woman engineer and scientist to think in terms of building their own company someday. The world will be a better place with more female founder CEOs,” she said.

Ms. Greene revealed that there’s an enormous opportunity ahead for Google Cloud as it has moved from having only two significant customers tomany.

The search engine behemoth had early this year in February announced that its cloud division was generating more than USD 1 billion in quarterly revenue.
