USA: New Health Cybersecurity ...A new cybersecurity center was started by the Department of Health and Human Services in the US. It aims to enhance the cyber defense of the country’s healthcare industry. The announcement was public earlier this week.
The Cybersecurity Coordination Center is situated in Washington’s HHS headquarters. The centre is designed to boost the coordination and information sharing within the healthcare sector. With that, different health organizations gain timely and actionable information fast. The centre will help to develop partnerships according to the agency.
The centre’s important role is to help stakeholders of the health sector which include various cybersecurity information sharing organizations and practitioners. The center will identify and prevent possible cyber threats, track hacker’s codes and communicate with healthcare organizations to safeguard their patients and assets.
The government has given the responsibility of handlingcybersecurity support on information sharing within the public-private healthcare sector to the Department of Health and Human Services. And, the Department of Homeland security will look after preventing cyber-attacks across all industries.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the healthcare had more than 400 data breaches between 2017 and 2018. To tackle down the problem, the centre will coordinate with the industry’s stakeholders.
In October, both the Department of Health and Human Services & Food and Drug Administration entered into an agreement. The agreement will pave the way for both the departments to tackle the growing cyber threat among in the healthcare sector.
