The World’s Smallest Wearabl...Prevention is always better than cure. Many people become the victim of skin cancer because of overexposure to ultraviolet rays (UV), but now a team of scientists has created theworld’s smallest wearable which has the capability to inform or warn peopleabout the level of UV rays entering the body.
The new rugged wearable is waterproof and interacts wirelessly with any smartphone. Designed to optimize treatment various skin disorders and diseases, the size of the device is smaller than M&M (colorful button-shaped chocolates) and thinner than a credit card. Hence, it reduces the risk of getting sunburns and skin cancer.
The device can be stuck to a hat or fingernails, or can be clipped in a sunglass; it will help the users to record simultaneously up to three separate wavelengths of light. The device doesn’t require any kind of recharge.
According to the researchers, the device is tiny and is sealed in a thin layer of transparent plastic; it doesn’t have switches or interfaces to wear out. The researchers published the study in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
The device recorded several forms of light exposure of the participants who wore the device outdoors and even in underwater.
The findings revealed that the device could checktherapeutic UV light in clinical phototherapy booths for dermatitis immune diseases likeatopic dermatitis and also blue light phototherapy in new-born babies for detecting jaundice in the neonatal ICU.
The device also demonstrated its capability to measure white light exposure which causes a mood disorder called seasonal depression.
