Another day another hack!
A subsidiary of Expedia Inc, the Chicago-based online travel booking company, Orbitz has recently revealed that it has suffered a data breach in one of its old websites which exposed nearly 880,000 card details of users who made online payment.
The data breach took place somewhere between October 2016 and December 2017, but the worst part is that all these days the company wasn’t aware of the event and the breach was detected earlier this month.
According to Orbitz, the attackers may have gained accessed to numerous payment card details stored on a consumer and business partner platform, along with customers' personal credentials, including name, address, and date of birth, phone number, email address and gender. Currently, the company is working closely with cybersecurity experts to investigate the nasty data breach and trying to confirm the number for U.S. customers who were not exposed in this incident. Furthermore, the company is assuring its customers that the current website, Orbitz.com was not affected by the breach.
"We deeply regret the incident, and we are committed to doing everything we can to maintain the trust of our customers and partners," says Orbitz.
Trying to fix the customer relationship, the company is currently working to notify the thousands of affected customers and also plans to offer one year of free credit monitoring and identity protection service to them.
