Did you hear about Google Fuchsia? A mysterious operating system
The Silicon Review

Tech giant Google has developed several operating systems to date but there is a mysterious alternative operating system which can run on computers, tablets, and mobiles. Since the company hasn’t officially launched it yet, while speculations and rumors are circulating over it, let’s have a sneak peek at this mysterious operating system.

According to various sources, Google Fuchsia was introduced to the public at GitHub in August 2016. However, GitHub is an open source platform for software developers that allow to share and collaborate their projects. Fuchsia is an open- source and a free slice of software like Android was before.

Google Fuchsia is a bit different, as it is not coded with Linux but empowered with Google’s own new microkernel called ‘Zirkon’ (little kernel). Zirkon was created by a coder named, Travis Geiselbrecht, who also developed the NewOS Kerneltahta that powers Haiku OS. Earlier this version of Kernel was known as Magenta which is connoted for fixed systems. Regardless of the origin, Google Fuchsia has the capability to run on cell phones, tablets and computers, and its versatility seems to be a root tenant of its design.

As of now, Google Fuchsia is still in its early stages, and it’s very unlikely which would be pre-installed on any new hardware for at least a year. If devices do start shipping with Fuchsia, its probably going to be a while before it storms into the mainstream market.

However, according to managing editor at 9to5Google, Stephen Hall, sources within Google have described Fuchsia as a ‘spiritual successor’ to that project.
