There is some exciting news for all the watch lovers around the world! Omega has launched a new model of their iconic moonwatch series called the dark side of the Apollo 8 featuring a traditional moonwatch design with some new tweaks. It is said that the chronograph was worn by Neil Armstrong on the surface of the Moon during his epic Moon visit.
It’s a symbol of the brand’s daring style, progressive-thinking and adventurous spirit, this iconic watch, “Dark Side of the Moon” represents a slim and sporty brand new addition to the classic series. The back side of the watch is faired black in colour, while the movements of the watch can be seen through a glass crystal, the case of the watch has a skeletonised face, the bridge (the part that holds everything inside the glass crystal) is designed like a lunar representation on its surface and it’s blackened to produce an effect. A manual wind mechanical movement is also added to the watch though.
The expected price of the watch is around $9000. Now most of us would be thinking why the watch is so expensive? Firstly, it’s a good riff on the original moonwatch and it’s the first mechanical watch that was worn on the moon. Omega has been sticking to the moonwatch brand for decades now and now they’re expanding their variants to other space missions too.
The back of the case features an interesting quote. “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE” – the special words engraved on the case back – were spoken by Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell on board during the Apollo 8 mission.
