WhatsApp Beta for Android Gets QR Code Payment Feature

WhatsApp Beta for Android Gets QR Code Payment Feature
The Silicon Review
27 March, 2018

Finally, the most awaited WhatsApp feature is here.

Facebook-owned, WhatsApp has recently added a new payments feature to the Android beta version of the app, which allows people to make payments through QR scans making the process easier and simpler.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp has also added the option of making payments to any UPI ID for both iOS and Android versions of the app. To support the payment system of the app, the new QR payment feature has been added to the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp (version 2.18.93), which is now available for download in the Google Play Store.

Users who have already enabled the WhatsApp payment option can go to the ‘settings’ and click ‘Payments’. Then scroll down and choose ‘new payment’ option. Here, the users will get two options, ‘UPI ID’ and the ‘QR scan’. On choosing the second option, users will be redirected to the QR code scanning screen which will then allow them to fill the desired amount of transactions and the UPI PIN for verification.

If the users want to use the new QR code payment option on WhatsApp, then it has to be downloaded from the Google Play Store, as mentioned earlier. For now, the new feature is available only for the Beta users and it is expected to be rolled-out for the regular version of the app.
