Google’s AI experiments will now let users talk to books

Lately, Google has been experimenting with Artificial Intelligence and its latest announcement shows that natural language processing involving machine reading comprehension has made significant advancements. The Google Research division has developed websites that demonstrate AI’s ability to understand how we speak. It has rolled out semantic experiences, the first of which lets users to find new ways of interacting with books, and the second allows them to play word association games powered by semantic search. While the first experience is called “Talk to Books”, the second is called “Semantris”.

Users can find the exact lines from books by simply typing a statement or question in the “Talk to Books” experience. The AI system was trained to learn identifying a good response without relying on keyword matching. Semantris, on the other hand, offers Tetris like word association games. The game displays random blocks with text written on them and users have to break the blocks with a word that relates to the text written on them. The AI then matches with the word, breaks the block and awards some points.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, has been supporting the advancements in AI and machine learning. Earlier this year, he said, “AI is one of the most important things that humanity is working on. It’s more profound than, I don’t know, electricity or fire.” He also mentioned that it could be helpful in solving climate change issues or curing cancer.
