The new 3D laser printer by Glowforge is now out for sale
The Silicon Review
24 April, 2018

The Seattle based hardware maker Glowforge has introduced a new 3D printer for desktops and it is released publicly. The company’s decision to raise up their gross sales came after they received $10 million funding from existing investors True Ventures and Foundry Group, bringing total funding to almost $40 million.

Priced at $2,495 for the starting model and $ 5,995 for the pro model, it is equipped with the maker-targeted device, which can ‘print’ (read: engrave/laser cut) a variety of materials including leather, wood, acrylic, glass, and even the metal surface of a MacBook. The printer is made to print larger items, and it is capable of running for longer periods.

Moreover, the new device is not meant for everyone as it’s quite expensive just as Skydio face-tracking selfie drone. It’s been a long journey to turn the founders’ novel idea and prototype into a market-ready and robust laser cutter and get that into all its backers’ hands. Furthermore, a quasi-optional air filter element for the Glowforge which costs an extra $995 will be available from November.

Glowforge CEO Dan Shapiro said the company has contacted every U.S. and E.U. customer who ordered during the campaign to arrange delivery and shipment to everyone who replied.
