Uber Ride Bookings Now Solely With Uber App Instead Of Google Maps
The Silicon Review
19 June, 2018

Earlier last year, Uber had joined hands with Google to be able to give the user access to book an Uber without leaving the Maps App page. You could easily check the price estimates, availability of cabs, pick up wait time and then complete the entire service request by signing in to the Uber Account which would display your stored payment and other details.

Recently, however, Google has reportedly removed the ability to book Uber rides through their app. Google was seemingly not happy with the functionality of booking an Uber ride from their app where users could enter a location, decide the route of their destination, check Uber availability for the same, and even book a ride; all on the Maps Page itself. After the discontinuation of this alliance, users can search their travel route on Maps and then request a ride from the Uber App.

The Uber integration with Google Maps seems to have been terminated for iOS later last year. While Google for Android still displays the option of booking an Uber, the help page states that you can no longer book you ride directly from Google Maps.

Although the integration with Google helped users book an Uber directly, it kept most people away from using the Uber App and Uber themselves would much rather have people book their rides through the designated App. Hence it is quite unclear as to why the Google Uber partnership had to be brought to an end.
