Technology Breakthrough: MIT Researchers Develops a System that can see Body through Walls

Researchers from the computer science and AI department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA have developed a system that can see a person’s body through the walls. Created by radio wave technology, the system can penetrate through the walls and recreate the poses while walking, sitting or standing.  The system can sense the position of the body and then recreates the body as a simple stick figure known as RF-Pose.

During the creation of the system, a neutral network was used to examine radio signals that bounced off from the bodies. After that, it created a dynamic stick figure for walking, sitting, and for the movement of the limbs as a person moved.

According to the Researchers, the new system is ideal for monitoring various diseases like Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. It will provide a better insight into the diseases progression and help the doctors to select the appropriate medications.  The system could also help the old aged people to live independently with an added security which will keep track of falls, injuries, and changes in activity patterns. It is still unclear that, whether the new system would be implemented for commercial purposes.

“If people think of the computer vision system as a teacher, this is a truly fascinating example of the student outperforming the teacher,” said Antonio Torralba, Researcher, MIT.
