Tim Hortons, the Canadian coffee and donut chain will expand its business in China as it has plans to introduce 1,500 outlets in the next ten years. The announcement was made by fast-food Company Restaurant Brands International on Wednesday.

The move by Tim Hortons will mark its first ever biggest expansion outside the country’s core market. The two-pronged strategy is proposed by the new president Alex Macedo which aims to tackle the massive competition among food chains and restaurants in Canada and to fix its bruised status.

“One is improving and increasing our leadership in Canada, and the second is taking a little bit of Canada to the world,” said Alex Macedo, president, Tim Hortons.

Focusing to capitalize on a growing cafe culture in China, Tim Hortons has partnered with a private equity company, Cartesian capital group. The food-chain will keep its beverage menu the same in China but will make a change in the food menu to attract the local market.

Tim Hortons currently has its chain in Ireland, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, United Kingdom, United States, Philippines, Qatar, and Mexico. The company has stated that it operates in 4,256 locations in Canada, 725 in the US and between 5 and 20 nation it entered in 2017.
