In order to spy on the employees specifically cashiers, Walmart has patented a surveillance technology that can record the conversation among the employees and use the audio recording to measure the performance of the workplace. These devices are called Sound Sensors that is specifically designed to fulfill such surveillance and automated needs.

The audio of both customers and employees will be used to determine the actual performance and efficiency of each an individual worker and also figure out what the customers’ needs are. Walmart mentioned in a statement that this patent is a concept that will help it gather metrics in order to improve the checkout process by carefully listening to the sounds produced by the cash registers, carts, and bags. Walmart also mentioned that the patented product won’t be used for any other purpose and the major reason for implementing such ideas is because they believe that it is necessary to always focus on customer satisfaction.

The system can record beeps to count the number of items purchased and according to that determine how many rustling of bags should be used. This will also help in determining how long the line is waiting and in which are the employees can improve. All in all, Walmart is planning to increase both customer satisfaction and better employees’ productivity, let us see if everything works out right for Walmart.
