13 August, 2018

Ericsson, the Swedish telecommunications company has made an announcement that it will add 300 jobs in the United States to fulfill the growing demand for 5G equipment. According to Ericsson, the company will hire people, who are experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence and engineering.

“This is part of an increase in R&D investment. It doesn’t mean we are cutting (staff) somewhere else to do this,” said Borje Ekholm, Chief Executive at Ericsson.

A lot of investors will hope that Ericsson reaps the full benefits from the new cycle of network upgrades because the company will start witnessing the demand for 5G gears by December this year or by January 2019. The company is dealing with the issue of falling spending on networks by telecom operators by reforming its top management, but it has added recruits in R&D to meet the demand for 5G.

The Swedish telecommunications which have 95,000 employees worldwide under its belt also seeks to build 5G radios in the U.S. by December this year. The company has many big players like China’s Huawei and Finland’s Nokia to compete with.

Ericsson’s market in the USA accounts for 25 percent of its revenue. The company did not reveal about its market share for this year but stated that it has a good momentum in its customer relations.

In July this year, there was an unexpected swing in the company to a modest operating profit citing the rise in sales traction in the North American region.
