The wait is over! Android P finally has a name

The wait is over! Android P finally has a name
The Silicon Review
07 August, 2018

After so many speculations and suggestions about the name of the Android’s latest update, it is finally decided to be called ‘Pie’. We know that Google typically names its Android versions after some desserts. Considering all the suggestions given to its name like Pancake, Pudding, Pastry etc, Pie may not sound one of the most creative names, but what really matters are the new features that they are offering.

The new version of Google’s mobile OS is on the way, coming first to Pixel smartphones and every other device that signed up for the beta version provided they got an update for the same (few examples of such devices are Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo etc.). Others have to wait until their manufacturer launches it for them which is not expected to happen soon.

At the end of the day, the most anticipated thing is the look and the feel of the Operating System rather than the name. When the phone will be updated to the new version, there are some major changes to notice. The most evident change in the interface is the new system navigation bar, replacing the standard three icons (back, home, and overview) navigation bar used for the last couple of iterations with a more adaptive system. Now the recently used apps could be previewed full-screen by swiping up the home button. There is an adaptive battery management which can efficiently manage the battery usage by learning about the apps that are used frequently. Google is probably using Mchine learning to enable features like smart Text Selection tools, Adaptive Brightness feature, Google suggestions for Apps etc.

These small changes will set apart Android 9 from the previous ones.
