The long awaited dislike button is finally on trial on Facebook Messenger

The long awaited dislike button is finally on trial on Facebook Messenger

Social media giant Facebook has been gaining popularity ever since its launch in 2004. After the introduction of the famous ‘Like’ button, users have always asked for the ‘Dislike’ button so that they could negatively respond to posts. The wait is over now!

Facebook has finally added thumbs down button to the list of reaction emojis. But, it is still on trial and can only be used as a reaction to someone’s message or comments on the Messenger app.  Though the thumbs down emoji looks like a ‘Dislike’ button, Facebook claims that it’s just a ‘No’ button. Like people had asked for, it won’t be available on the News Feed, to avoid potential controversies.

A Facebook representative stated about this new feature to TechCrunch saying, “We are always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”  There’s a possibility that this could make a substantial addition to the success of reaction emojis. But, the point to be considered here is Facebook was originally meant to provide a platform for people to socialize and form communities by sharing their views. The introduction of ‘sad’ and ‘angry’ reaction emojis have already enabled them to express their negative opinions on something. The need of a stronger emoji to express disapproval doesn’t contribute well to promoting healthy socialization.

Facebook has already added enough features to pin users to their smart phones and computers.  Even if the new reaction emoji is not rolled out to all the users, it still will continue to be the most loved social networking platform of all times.
