New Cam Slider - A Mechanical Innovation
The Silicon Review
20 June, 2018

We have seen sliding phones in the past like Blackberry Torch, LG Cosmos 2, Samsung Monte Slider and various other phones that would slide when the user pushes the display upwards eventually exposing the keypads. Later when touchscreen phones were invented keypad phones became antique. But recently Oppo and Vivo have incorporated this sliding technique and instead of using it to slide the display, it is used to slide the camera. If you see the demo video of these phones, you will notice that as the phone is being unlocked the top head of the phone slides up and exposes the camera.

Find X and Nex from Oppo and Vivo respectively have these feature. Find X’s complete head comes up whereas only a portion of front camera pops up in Nex. These phones do not have bezels and notch making it more user interactive. The touch seems very smooth and it reacts immediately.

The specifications of Find X are quite impressive because it has an Octa Core with a 6.4-inch display. Storage capacities of 128 GB that will withstand 3730 mAh along with an 8 GB RAM. Nex also has Octa Core but with 6.59 inches display with the same storage capacity but has a 4000 mAh battery backup with a 6 GB RAM.

Most of the features are the same and standard for the latest smartphones. It is this new sliding feature that is interestingly unique. We shall see how it benefits users in the future.
