After getting hit by a Virus, the iPhone Chipmaker Works to Recover

The impact created by the virus attack resulted in delayed shipments that have caused a drop in revenue for the company and has impacted various factories’ operations. The chipmakers from Taiwan, Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation have always focused on iPhone chips and other devices. The developers faced a huge hit on Friday that has affected most of the fabrication tools but the company is slowly making progress in removing the entire virus. By today it is expected to restore about 80 percent of the fabrication tools.

It is uncertain on which customer is going to be affected and the company is yet to produce any sort of statement or news. But for now, it is expected that the third quarter revenue will decline by three percent along with the operations margin by one percent. Apple was maintaining its forecast for 2018 by single digits but now things are different.

“TSMC has taken actions to close this security gap and further strengthen security measures,” says Lora Ho, TSMC Chief Financial Officer, on Sunday. According to TSMC, the outbreak happened due to a misoperation that was caused because of software installation. It all occurred in TSMC’s computer network connection process.

Ho also said Bloomberg News that, “TSMC has been attacked by viruses before, but this is the first time a virus attack has affected our production lines”. The developers certainly look shocked. Let us see if they can avoid such problems in the future.
