Walmart offers a new grocery delivery service with Spark Delivery

Walmart offers a new grocery delivery service with Spark Delivery
The Silicon Review
07 September, 2018

Walmart is looking forward to move beyond its competitors like Amazon by collaborating with Bringg, a delivery logistics company. Bringg will work with Walmart to offer an Amazon-like visibility of delivery operations for a better grocery and household goods delivery. The new program launched by Walmart is called Spark Delivery that aims to improve and develop a robust delivery network by crowd sourcing deliveries.

Spark Delivery is supposed to function like the ride-hailing Uber and Lyft networks where the drivers can sign up for the service and then deliver groceries through the order details and navigational assistance provided to them. The delivery service has already been live in the US markets since March, and now, the company plans to expand its offerings across 100 metro areas that roughly come to around forty percent of US households by the year end. The service is offered at $9.95 per order with goods in the shopping cart amounting to $30 at a minimum. In order to reach markets that are challenging and far, Walmart has also partnered with Uber, Postmates, Doordash, Lyft along with Alphabet’s self-driving Waymo division.

Greg Foran, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. said, “We’re saving customer’s time by leveraging new technology, and connecting all the parts of our business into a single seamless shopping experience: great stores, easy pickup, fast delivery, and apps and websites that are simple to use.” It is quite clear from the retail giant’s moves that it is making efforts to catch up to Amazon’s logistics network to become better than its suite of delivery services.
