Spotify, a popular audio streaming service is soon going to launch its voice-enabled music and podcast device. The Sweden-based company is doing quite well in its software services, and now it has made an announcement that it is testing its audio and podcast device called the “Car Thing”. The name suggests that the device is meant to be used in a car.

Presently, the product is being tested with some of the users in the US who has Spotify Premium membership. They will be given the device for free. The company informs that its intention to create a hardware device is to understand how people listen to audio in their cars. “While we know there has been some speculation about our future plans, Car Thing was developed to help us learn more about how people listen to music and podcasts. However, our focus remains on becoming the world’s number one audio platform, and not on creating hardware,” stated the company’s spokesperson in a blog post.

Right now, Spotify has no plans of making the product available to the masses but it attempts to learn from this test in order to improve its services.

The company confirms that it is not competing with existing smart assistance tools like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. However, it plans to create something similar that can be used when listening to music and podcast via Spotify.
