Reports: Android’s Next Version to Feature a Facial Recognition System like Apple’s Face ID

According to reports, Android’s next version OS, Android Q could be equipped with a facial recognition system like Apple’s Face ID. The latest recognition hardware technology will feature significant updates over the current 'Trusted Face' system.

Unlike its predecessors ‘Face Unlock’ and ‘Trusted Face’, the new security feature will assist users such as authorized transactions, signing into apps, and signing into phones.

Android’s facial recognition system will be like Apple’s face ID which was first witnessed on the iPhoneX. Android’s current facial recognition depends on the smartphone’s front camera but does not have featureslike Apple’s Face ID such as Time of Flight sensor, IR illuminator, dot projector, and other sensors.

The new Android OS will include other features as well. It will be powered with a system-wide Dark mode and will be integrated with every preloaded app. Users can run them in dark mode. The new update will provide an enhanced power-efficiency.

Google plans to develop a desktop-like an experience, where users can connect their smartphones to a monitor as a PC replacement through a hub. The screens will have more power to support extended applications across multiple or foldable displays.

Android’s current version only allows a user to operate a single app at a time in split screen mode. Android may change the face, allowing users to use two or more apps at a time. Therefore, it means that one could play music and games at the same time in different windows.
