Apple to Drop iPhone prices outside the US
The Silicon Review
31 January, 2019

Apple Inc.has decided to drop down the prices of some of its iPhones models.

The decision was taken by the company in order to increase the sales of iPhoneagainst their weak sales in countries like China.Where a 10% rise in the US dollar last yearin Chinahas led to the increase in the price of the iPhones making it costlier than its rivals.

The plan was revealed by the company’s Chief executive, Tim Cook on Tuesday as the company’s sales dipped for the first time during the key holiday shopping period. Previously the company had dropped down the iPhone prices just after its debut in 2007.

Apple did not reveal about the name of the countries for the adjustment of iPhone prices. Earlier this month, several mobile phone retailers in China had decided to reduce iPhone prices after Apple’s sales forecast for the last quarter was not up to the mark.

The new model of iPhone, i.e. iPhone XS was launched in September last year and was priced at $999. The price of the new model is the same as its predecessor, the iPhone X, which was rolled out in 2017.

As per Mr. Cook, the company will adjust the prices with other countries in some markets by resetting them at or close to what they were one year before in local currencies. Therefore, the company will absorb the cost of the strengthening dollar.

“We’ve decided to go back to (iPhone prices) more commensurate with what our local prices were a year ago, in hopes of helping the sales in those areas,” quoted Mr. Cook.
