Hyundai unveils its new Concept Car Elevate

Hyundai unveils its new Concept Car Elevate
The Silicon Review
08 January, 2019

At the CES 2019, Hyundai, the South Korean car manufacturing company unveiled its concept car which runs on robotic legs. Dubbed as Elevate, the car is designed with technologies from both electric car and robots.

The ultimate mobility vehicle has four mechanical legs along with wheels for feet. The vehicle has the potential to move along on extended legs or retract them to be driven like a car.

The extended legs can help crawling or climbing while keeping the passenger compartment level.  According to the company, the car is designed in such a unique manner that it is capable of moving both like a reptile or mammal, allowing it to move in any direction.

The car can climb walls upto 5 feet too while keeping the vehicle’s body level matching with the ground.

The company has been working for 3 years to develop the vehicle. The vehicle will be helpful to rescue stranded or injured people in rugged terrains or disaster zones. It can go to such places where no vehicle has ever gone.  For example, the vehicle can be sent to other planets for exploration.

The new car’s scaled down model was displayed in the extravaganza event.

According to John Suh, a Hyundai executive, the new technology is very useful in emergency situations, like assisting people with disabilities. People with disabilities can buy a self-driven Hyundai Elevate that could walk up to their front door and assist them, the level itself, and allow their wheelchair to roll right in.
