As per Electrek(via Engadget), Tesla, the electric car manufacturer has raised prices at its Supercharger stations after implementing a new pricing policy. The electric car maker wants to shift from a regional pricing policy to an individual station wise policy. The price changes have been done to consider local demands and power rates.

Reportedly, the price change now demands the drivers in New York to pay $0.32 per kWh leading toa 33% increment in the earlier prices. Earlier the price was $0.24 per kWh which was charged according to regional pricing schemes. Even the European drivers have reported price hikes. Moreover, Tesla also hiked prices ranging from 20% to 40% last year for pay-per-use customers.

“The company is adjusting Supercharging pricing to better reflect differences in local electricity costs and site usage,”a spokesperson for Teslainformed Electrek.  The company also mentioned that it doesn’t plan to use the Supercharging stations for generating profit.

Recently, Elon Musk, Tesla CEO made an announcement that the company would not continue its customer referral program. The modifications in the price have been done following his decision. Using the referral program, the customers were able to giftsix months of free charging to their friends and relatives who also owns a Tesla. This was a cost-cutting strategy which turned into a profitable move forthe first time in two years last fall.
