Swedish utility Vattenfall joined Microsoft to develop the world’s first-of-its-kind renewable energy tracker

Swedish utility giant Vattenfall has joined its hands with Microsoft to develop a first-of-its-kind solution, in order to help the customers to minimize the energy management and to optimize the usage of it. It also provides users with insights regarding the source of their energy on an hourly basis.

This solution will enable the energy providers to easily understand the concept and demand for renewable energy hour-by-hour and to take action to meet the production demand.  It also helps to keep a track on sourcing of renewable energy into climate impact. This system can inspire regulatory change in usage of renewable sources of energy.

The technology is now being tested by the two companies at Microsoft’s headquarters in Sweden. This platform is based on Microsoft’s Azure IoT Central System, which has energy generation data with consumer energy usage data. This energy generation data is sourced from wind and solar assets whilst consumer usage data is generally acquired from smart meters.

Andreas Regnell, Senior Vice President of Strategic Development at Vattenfall has said that the firm is happy to develop their relationship with Microsoft. He also said that this new digital solutions and technology can be used to enable a fossil-free living. Daniel Akenine, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Sweden, said with this innovative technology, one can reduce the usage of renewable energy covers and will get a better idea of energy consumption on an hourly basis.
