Google uses DeepMind’s AI so...Google uses the artificial intelligence software of its London-based subsidiary, DeepMind to predict the energy output of the wind farms the company uses for its green energy initiatives. This will make energy produced by wind farms more viable. The firm says that it can now schedule set deliveries of energy output, all thanks to DeepMind’s AI algorithms. This has brought around 20 percent improvements in the value of wind energy when compared to non-time-based energy outcomes. The exact location where it is being deployed is not yet informed by the company. Reportedly, it will be somewhere in the Midwest, as Google works with many wind farms there.
Google informed last year that 100percent of its energy usage was from renewable sources. This could happen as a result of the company’s major investments in wind and solar energy to protect environmental damage. Harnessing wind energy can be a troublesome task considering the unpredictable nature of wind. Google says,“The variable nature of wind itself makes it an unpredictable energy source, less useful than one that can reliably deliver power at a set time.”
This isn’t the first time DeepMind’s AI algorithms have been utilized by the company. In 2016, Google used its AI capabilities to reduce the power costs of its data centers by 15 percent.
