Puma Seeks to Hire Tech Savvy Candidates to Test its New Self-Lacing Shoes
The Silicon Review
05 Febuary, 2019

Puma has made an announcement about its new self-lacing shoes. The new sneaker is called “Fi” for “Fit Intelligence” and it is exclusively designed for training purposes. “Fi” can adapt to a wearer’s foot with the wipe of a module on top of the shoe’s tongue.

People can adjust the tightness of the shoe through their smartphones or an Apple watch. There is a micromotor attached to the shoes which pulls a pair of blue cable through the sneaker.

Earlier, the company rolled out its first wirelessly connected self-lacing sneakers in 2016. The sneaker was called Auto Disc. They could be charged wirelessly via a Qi charging pad and the power lastedfor almost five days. But the new sneaker doesn’t have any tracking capabilities to carry out activities like log steps, or amount of calories burnt etc. Although it could disappoint many people since the company’s 1986 model could record time, distance and calories.

Puma is looking for tech savvies that can beta test the new shoe. The company will take feedbacks from regular customers about the shoe’s usability, design, engineering, and wearability.

Although the company receives feedback from Beta testers, the new sneaker will remain a self-lacing shoe for now. The shoes are expected to be out in the market by 2020 at a price of $330.

If any person is interested to try out a new pair of Fi then they can download the app called Pumatrac training app on their Android and iOS devices. The users will be notified about the test’s registration in the app.
