Huawei Rolls out Two new Flagship Smartphones in Brazil
The Silicon Review
01 May, 2019

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd is tapping into the Brazilian Phone market by rolling out two new high-end smartphones, Reuters reported on Tuesday. The move will also help the company to broaden its footprint in the South American region.

People familiar with the matter said Huawei is in a very different share position than it was five years back and there is a tremendous brand momentum. The new smartphones are P30 Pro and P30 Lite. The retailers that will sell the smartphones are Telefonica Brazil, Fast Shop, Via Varejo, B2W, and Magazine Luiza.

Both the smartphones will be available through eight online and physical stores by May 17. The suggested prices for the phones are 2,499 reais ($638) and 5,499 reais ($1,403), respectively.

Initially, the handsets will be brought from China, but the company is considering local production if the demand rises.

A smartphone called Ascend P7 was launched earlier in Brazil but the sales were not upto the mark, and hence, Huawei halted the project.

There is no information about the projected sales estimates for the new handsets in Brazil. But the company will focus on these three cities at first- Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília.

According to a research report by IDC, the sales of smartphones in Brazil are likely to drop down 4.3 percent to 42.5 million units in 2019. Last year, the sales had dropped by 3.8 percent.
