Tokyo’s Olympic Committee Launches “Tokyo 2020 Robot Project”

Tokyo’s Olympic organizing committee has launched a project known as “Tokyo 2020 Robot Project.” The announcement was made last week. Under the project, Toyota has developed robots for next year’s Olympic.

A range of robots are expected to be deployed during the next year’s mega event; but for now, sources familiar to the matter have only reported about two robots by Toyota. The two robots that were reported arethe Human Support Robot (HSR) and Delivery Support Robot (DSR).

These robots will help disabled visitors at different events.  As a part of a “practical real-life deployment helping people,” both the robots will assist the disabled visitors by guiding them to their seats, fetching food and helping them order many things through a tablet.

The HSR is designed to move around and pick around stuff; basically, it is a mobile manipulator.  The HSR can carry out any kind of things; allowing people to program itself to do the commanded things. But, people may find it a little difficult to operate the robot during the event.

The robot resembles somewhat like a mobile robot that can carry snacks. During the event, the people will be assisted with 16 HSR and 10 DSR robots.

The new project will definitely prove to be worth at the next year’s mega event in Tokyo, and apart from the development, Toyota will be boosted in terms of hospitality.

The potential of the two above cited robots are huge and could be generally used in the future.
