Volkswagen unveils a bold new electric dune buggy
The Silicon Review
05 March, 2019

Volkswagen has introduced a brand new dune buggy to its ambitious I.D. line of electric vehicles. Ever since the German automotive giant launched its bold new MEB platform for vehicles, it has been keen on testing the waters with a number of concept cars, especially for its I.D series of vehicles. The concept of MEB was to introduce a modular platform for planned electric vehicles and was launched in 2016. The dune buggy is the latest in a series of vehicles to feature futuristic concept cars designs that are most likely inspired by previous models.

The dune buggy was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and clearly showcases the modular capabilities of Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The design allows for two additional seats to be added, in addition to the existing two seats. Moreover, users can also add another electric motor to the front axle in order to enjoy four-wheel drive capabilities, ideal for off-road adventures. The MEB platform allows for the body to be detached from the chassis, allowing auto aficionados to experiment and modify with additional add-ons and features.

The dune buggy has a battery and an electric motor that provides over 200 horsepower and a range of 155 miles on a single charge. What’s more, is that the concept car does not have doors or a roof to allow drivers the sheer thrill of cruising off-road. The German car maker is increasingly committing more and more of its resources into developing electric vehicles, in order to keep up with rapid changes in the auto industry and also to repair its image after news broke out in 2015 that it had elaborately cheated emission tests.
